The ‘Wizard’ comes to Beaumont

If you should happen to see a wicked witch fly by on a broomstick, she’s probably headed for Mountain View Middle School, where she will appear in the Drama Club’s presentation of “The Wizard of Oz.”
This well-known story of Dorothy and her friends – the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and Cowardly Lion – will be performed at the school on Dec. 4, 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. A matinee is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
Starring as Dorothy is eighth-grader Kendal Solak, who said she “worked really hard to get the part.” Solak, who has been acting since she was 7 and has appeared in 12 plays, said she beat out 90 other girls who also tried out for Dorothy.

A message from the Superintendent
I am pleased to take this opportunity, as the Superintendent of Beaumont Unified School District, to share with you some of the outstanding accomplishments and positive news coming from our district. First and foremost, our students continue to excel academically. This past school year three of our elementary schools, Three Rings Ranch, Sundance, and Brookside, were each nominated as a California Distinguished School. We are thrilled to announce that Brookside Elementary School was selected as a California Distinguished School. Last spring, Sundance Elementary School was recognized for the second consecutive year as a National Title I Achieving School. The 2007-2008 API test scores place Beaumont Unified Schools sixth (6th) out of twenty-three (23) school districts in all Riverside County. Five of our six elementary schools have API scores of over 800. Chavez Elementary School (now Anna Hause) had a whopping 37 point gain and met all their sub-group targets. San Gorgonio Middle School had a 33 point gain, and they too, met all their sub-group targets. Beaumont High School had a huge 45 point gain and met all their sub-groups as well. Additionally, this fall Beaumont High School will undergo a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation review. These outstanding test results can be directly attributed to the teachers, instructional staff, administration, district support staff and Board of Trustees that value education. Our staff is committed to providing quality instruction vital to student academic success. The Beaumont Unified School District continues to provide state-of-the-art educational facilities, safe and secure learning environments, and current instructional materials, textbooks, and support supplies to our students.

This fall we opened yet another beautiful new elementary school, named after long-time teacher and administrator, Anna M. Hause. The school is our most technologically advanced facility so far, and we invite parents and the community to drop by and visit the campus. This year our district implemented our new state math adoption. The Board of Trustees approved over a million dollars to purchase all new math textbooks, and the supplementary teacher instructional materials. We also conducted a week-long comprehensive teacher/administrator training session to in-service our folks on the math curriculum. We will continue our professional training/in-services throughout the year to give our teachers the most current instructional strategies to better meet the educational needs of our students. Our ASES/Connections Before and After School program continues to grow, while offering affordable supervised study options for students at all of our elementary and middle schools. Our Beaumont Adult Education program offers a full contingent of courses/programs including English as a Second Language classes, GED Prep, GED Distance Learners, Medical Vocational Arts, Citizenship, a fully credentialed LVN program, and several fee based classes. I want to compliment our parents who actively support our PTSA’s, our athletic and co-curricular teams/groups. Your support and commitment to our educational programs is vital to the success of our school district.

In closing, I want to encourage all of our parents to actively support their children in all of their educational pursuits. The Beaumont Unified School District is committed to providing the highest quality educational opportunities for all our students. Quality education is truly a “shared commitment” between home, school and community.
